Leg 1, Segment 2: EGPF - BIKF

Sunday, 1 February 2009
Segment 2 will be taking us from Glasgow over to Keflavik. You can see from the FS flight plan that the route I will be taking will see a departure climb out from the GOW VOR towards the FINDO intersection just by Perth, before passing due west of Orkney, then making a westerley arc out over the Faroe Islands prior to crossing over to Iceland and starting the approach into Keflavik.

Righto, strapped into G-DOCU again, the cockpit is prepped, v-speeds computed on the FMC and bugs set on the HSI CRT and airspeed indicator. It's a nice day for flying, although there is a bit of chop about, as I've chosen to fly with real world weather.

After clearance to pushback and start, I begin the taxi out to runway 5, facing to the North East.

Although the weather is nice, as mentioned it's a bit windy and I struggled to keep charlie uniform on the centreline as we built up speed down the runway before rotation..... check out the wind readout below; 47 knot crosswind on the climbout !!

G-DOCU settled at CRZ of FL350 and mach .765

Approach into Keflavik; flaps 15 and gear down.

Long finals, ILS runway 11 intercepted glidescope and localizer bit of a crosswind again... but not as bad as before!

Just after touchdown on the tarmac of runway 11 at Keflavik, reverse engaged and spoilers deployed.

View from BIKF tower as G-DOCU taxies to the gate.

Arrival at the gate.
